Weekend Guide: 48 Hours in Miami

Miami Beach looking at Ocean Drive
Experience this beautiful beach city in one weekend with our guide to the top things to do in Miami.

Along the southern coast of Florida, only about 15 miles north of the Keys, lies a city with a unique blend of history and contemporary happenings. From art to food, and everything in between, there are plenty of things to do to get the full flavor of Miami.

Friday

6 p.m. | S’mores at Solé Miami

Once you’ve checked into your home base for the weekend, head down to the concierge at Solé Miami to get your hands on the ingredients for everyone’s favorite summer snack. With pre-made s’mores kits and fire pits right at the beach’s edge, you can get comfortable in your Adirondack chair and enjoy a Miami sunset while the smell of toasted marshmallow fills the air.

9 p.m. | Nightcap at Sweet Liberty

Take a tour of Miami’s wildest cocktails at this nightlife hotspot, located in the heart of Miami Beach and open daily 4 p.m. to 4 a.m. Get your taste buds singing with a menu boasting strange concoctions like the Sweet Potato Pain Killer (sweet potato juice and a three-rum blend) and the Smoke & Sand (matcha and gin). After, hit the dance floor and enjoy a blast from the past with their signature ’90s vibe coming through the speakers.

Saturday

10 a.m. | Brunch at ALL DAY

As the name suggests, ALL DAY serves up breakfast all day, along with what is hailed Miami’s best cup of coffee. With bottomless mimosas on weekends, a pastry case brimming with scratch-made goodies, and a high end take on all the breakfast classics, you can’t go wrong nursing your Sweet Liberty-inflicted hangover amongst the bright, pastel-colored walls of the café.

Vizcaya Miami.

1 p.m. | A Stroll Through the Gardens at The Vizcaya Museum

While in Miami, a tour through the Vizcaya Museum and Gardens is a must. The stunning 34-room Italian Renaissance-style villa is a sight to see and has an interesting history to match. Built by International Harvester Vice President, James Deering, in the early 1900s, he brought in more than a thousand European craftsmen to create the 28-acre property.

4 p.m. | Hit up Little Haiti

On your way back up to Solé Miami, make a quick detour to this neighborhood that is the cultural heart of Haitian diaspora, home to almost 30,000 Haitian-Americans who sought refuge here in the 1980s. The 40-block district radiates energy – in the form of brightly painted murals that adorn almost every building to the Caribbean music that pours through its streets. Iconic landmarks include the Libreri Mapou Bookstore, a neighborhood staple since 1986, and The Little Haiti Cultural Complex, offering Haitian dance classes.

Pizza From BALEENkitchen.

7 p.m. | Take a Bite Out of the World at BALEENkitchen

“Eat Local. Think Global.” BALEENkitchen, housed in Solé Miami, boasts its mission loud and clear on its globally-inspired menu with items like linguini Bolognese, Mahi Mahi tacos, and skirt steak. The beautifully prepared dishes only mirror the restaurant’s gorgeous surroundings, bathed in shades of indigo with sweeping ocean views through the floor-to-ceiling windows.

Sunday

9 a.m. | A Quintessential Miami Beach Day

You can’t end your trip without venturing out to Miami Beach, home to South Beach, Mid Beach, and North Beach. South Beach is undeniably the most well-known place to stake your umbrella for its beautiful white sand punctuated by iconic pastel-colored art deco lifeguard stands. But it also offers amazing food, boutiques, and nightlife along its neighboring Ocean Drive.
